Design a specialized mobile app for an Art Gallery

Duration: August-October 2022

My Role: I was the sole designer on the project, including brand development, writing, research, and design system developer.

PROBLEM:

Through competitive audit, I uncovered that galleries in my area do not have a heavy emphasis on visiting the venue. Therefore, the local community is not remarkably aware of the venue and the offerings.

This creates a market opportunity for my gallery to focus on getting patrons to come to the venue and purchase works by local artists.

PRIMARY GOAL:

To provide concise and helpful information needed for a guest to visit the gallery and allow a clear path for that to happen.

TARGET PERSONAS:

- Homeschool families seeking to learn about and connect with local artists.

- Local singles or families wishing to fill their homes with art created by local artists.

KEY CHALLENGES

1. Creating a path for the user to easily create a plan to frequent the venue.

2. Answer specific frequently asked questions within the app.

3. Creating a simple path for the user to purchase works.

SIMPLICITY IS THE TARGET

The app experience should not be cumbersome or too heavy. Layout the brand, provide pertinent information, and let the user experience the venue.

A clear call to action button needs to be prominent on the home page, providing a simple next step to plan a visit to the gallery.

TAKEAWAYS

As a homeschool parent myself, art galleries and museums have always been near and dear to my heart. This was my first time creating every part of the app experience, and I can definitely see how this could grow and morph into a highly effective tool for local galleries.

WHAT'S NEXT?

I would love to take this framework and develop it for local art galleries and museums, helping them strengthen their brand while providing more and better opportunities for patrons to partner with the gallery to bring their community together with local artists.
